We were over in Kent on a new combi boiler swap (the old one was over ten years old and had already been repaired a few times to try and keep it going) and whilst we were there, the Landlord called and asked if we could go and have a look at another of their properties with a hot water problem.
Naturally we finished up the boiler installation like the good gas/heating engineers we are and popped around to have a look at the breakdown.
Symptoms were:
Central heating was working fine, however, the hot water would not come on.
Solution:
This one threw a little curve ball at the start as the hot water would work if the heating had previously been on. If the hot water was the very first demand on the boiler for the day then it wouldn’t heat at at all…a little strange.
With a little testing of the diverter assembly and motor head we established that the PCB was in fact sensing the water flow of the hot taps but due to the diverter head being pretty old it was worn and beyond it’s service life. No problem, we just ordered up the new parts and got them replaced.
Voila! Hot water was returned to another happy customer.
