When a boiler fires up early morning we don’t notice, take them for granted and just carry on. When they fail to fire we are quick to notice and quick to complain about them!
Another simple fix on another old gas boiler.
The call came in and the report was that the boiler made a noise like it wanted to start up and then stopped. Handy.
A safety system on many boilers involves sensing air pressure/flow to ensure the fan is pulling/pushing air and combustion gases out of the boiler and the flue, however, they utilise small rubber hoses and over time these can get brittle and crack.
The cracks allow air to escape which means the pressure/flow switch will not receive enough pressure to tell the PCB that the fan is actually spinning which in turn will NOT allow the gas valve to open and the ignition sequence to continue.
A few new rubber hoses and full inspection later and the gas boiler fired to life and is back to heating the household.
“When my very old system boiler decided not to work one winters day I called the first person
I found and am happy that was Richard (Icy Hot Ltd) as he was quick to locate the issue,
didn’t mind my dog wanting constant attention and saved me what I imagine to be a
considerable amount of money had a lesser engineer come to repair the issue. Turns out is
was just a worn out piece of rubber tubing”!
